Fouassier Père et Fils
The Loire Valley, 200 kilometres south east of Paris, is home to the eleven single natually sustained vineyard Sancerres produced by Fouassier Père et Fils, now with its tenth generation of family members (cousins Paul and Benoit) working to ever improve and innovate.
Known for their intensity of flavour, bright colour and classical varietal aromas and flavours, the eleven are always highly rated and in high demand. Also produced is one single vineyard red wine (Pinot Noir), L'etourneau AOC Sancerre Rouge.
In 2011, ECOCERT and BIODYVIN recognizing Domaine Fouassier as 100% compliant with all international organic and biodynamic guidelines, granted certification.
2018 AOC Sancerre Les Romains
Produced from 25 to 30 year old vines grown in a 3 Ha vineyard on the clayey and flinty upper Cretaceous formation sub soil of the area known as "terres blanches." The 100% Sauvignon grapes are hand picked at optimum ripeness and undergo a traditional, natural yeast vinification in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. This is a certified Biodynamic and Organic wine. A versatile wine with fine floral aromas, steely flavours (gun flint) and exceptional length on the finish is best served with Belon oysters or goats cheese at 10- 12.°C or with a meal at 12-14°C.
“This beautifully rich, superbly textured wine is made from biodynamically grown Sauvignon Blanc. It has a fine tension between crispness and ripe yellow and white fruits. There is great aging potential here. So while the wine is ready, it would be a shame not to wait until 2022 for full maturity.”
