Domaine Lafond Roc-Epine
Domaine Lafond Roc-Épine is owned by Jean-Pierre Lafond and his son Pascal Lafond. It was Jean-Pierre’s great uncle, who was the governor in Tavel, who began growing grapes on his property in 1780.
In 1948, Jean-Pierre Lafond’s maternal grandfather, Valery Taulier, built the first private cellar in Tavel. Owner and merchant dealer in wine, he maintained economical ties with the “Bourguignon” trade and with the main Swiss importing firm. This resulted in the growth of Tavel as an appellation.
In 1970, Jean-Pierre Lafond, Valery Taulier’s son-in-law, decided to create the present cellar. Fond of horses, he named the winery after a famous horse: Roquepine. He just changed the spelling to give it a touch of Provence; Domaine Lafond Roc-Épine was born.
2017 AOC Lirac Blanc
50% Grenache Blanc, 30% Roussanne & 20% Viognier
A lovely refreshing marriage. Loads of fruit, fragrances of linden tree and white flowers, flavours of citrus fruit, a frank liveliness with enough punch that when served as an aperitif, it will tantalize your taste-buds without drowning your thirst. The fragrances evolve after the first summer towards honey and acacia notes, accentuating the suppleness of the wine.

A richly fruity effort offering abundant fruit, full body and loads of character. This is a powerful and well-structured wine with a rich, deep ruby red colour with hints of purple. The nose is complex with cinnamon, stewed fruit and Morello cherries. Following a firm and ample attack in the mouth, we can find vanilla and peppery notes which last to the finish. It is a supple and rich wine, lingering in the mouth.
2017 AOC Châteauneuf Du Pape
80% Grenache Noir & 10% Mourvèdre
"...a brilliant effort in the vintage, the 2011 Châteauneuf du Pape Roc- Épine is a sweetly fruited, elegant 2011 that gives up notions of black reaspeberry, melted licorice, sweet spice and hints of crushed flowers. Medium bodied, supple and nicely textured, with firm tannin and excellent freshness and focus, it should drink nicely through 2021. Drink now-2021."
