Bodega Don Juan del Águila
Don Juan del Águila is a co-operative effort founded in 1956 by the growers of the town of El Barraco in the province of Avila. The focus is on high elevation Garnacha with expert winemaker Daniel Ramos at the helm of the Gaznata wines.
2012 Gaznata Concrete
The Gaznata Concrete is an aged, but un-oaked Old vine, high altitude Garnacha from the Gredos Mountains, just west of Madrid in Spain. The aging technique of this wine brings out all of the aspects and complexity of a developing Garnacha, but without the oak influence. Try it with pasta, braised meats, chorizo, and medium cheeses. Impressive!
2013 Gaznata Joven
An old vine, high altitude Garnacha! Juicy and fruity with plenty of body and a fantastic complexity for an unoaked, younger wine. Ruby at the core with a wide raspberry coloured rim, intense aromas of blackberries, plums, cinnamon and violets. Full bodied with cherries, blackberries, Christmas spices and liquorice across the palate; and, a long and lingering finish of wild mountain herbs. Perfect with a charcuterie platter, all sorts of cheeses, grilled meats with rosemary and garlic, roasted poultry or stewed rabbit with grilled veggies… very versatile... extremely enjoyable.
