The modern winery is 30+ years old but, the origins of the Herdade do Esporão and its winemaking activities date back to the prehistoric times of the megalithic cultures and the Bronze Age. Already during the Roman occupation, the wines of the settlement of Esporão were exported to the whole Empire. The boundaries of the estate were established in 1267 and have remained practically unaltered since then.

50% Antao Vaz & 25% Roupeiro

Crystal clear citric colour. Aromas that are delicate fresh white stone fruits with lemon notes. A palate that is firm, intense, well balanced with a long aromatic finish. Balanced and gastronomic, it is an excellent choice for a variety of occasions and consumers.

2019 Esporão Reserva Alentejo Branco

40% Antao Vaz, 30% Roupeiro & 30% Arinto

A classic wine style made from estate grown Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro, Semillon grapes (average age of vines 18 years) that show the consistency and the rich, ripe character which is typical of the best Alentejo wines.  A temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks and in new french and american oak barrels with 6 month ageing on fine lees.

The wine colour is clear, straw with green tinges. The aroma is rich and intense with notes of peach and grapefruit, and well integrated toasty notes. On the palate it is creamy and complex, well balanced, deeply fruity with minerality and a fresh and persistent finish. Ideally consumed at 12°C:  Drink 2014-2018

2019 Esporão Reserva Alentejo Tinto

Esporão Reserva is a mature, elegant and balanced wine produced from a blend of Aragonês, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet. It is memorable for its engaging flavour that is perfectly suited for special moments. It is a wine for people who value life and the best it has to offer. Deep, dark red in colour; intense and lifted aromas with ripe red berry fruits and well integrated new oak giving hints of chocolate and vanilla. The palate is well balanced and elegant, with layers of ripe fruit and fine supportive tannins. Shows richness and complexity, with a long and persistent finish.

2016 Colheita Branco - Organic

Antao Vaz

A wine exclusively produced from organically grown grapes on the Esporão estate, expressing the tipicity of the vintage, the different soils where the vineyards are planted and the grapes’ varietal characters.

Crystalline, straw-like with greenish tinge in colour with aromas of cistrus (particularly lemon) with hints of white fruit and green leaf.  Comples and slightly creamy on the palate; pure, rich, fresh with an intense and very persistent finish.

2015 Colheita Tinto - Organic

50% Cabernet Sauvignon & 50% Touriga Franca

A wine exclusively produced from organically grown grapes on the Esporão estate, expressing the tipicity of the vintage, the different soils where the vineyards are planted and the grapes’ varietal characters.

Cofermentation began in marble lagares, with foot treading and finishing in cement tanks, with temperature control 22-25ºC. Malo-lactic fermentation and ageing occurred in the same cement tanks for 6 months, allowing for microoxidation and respect for the character of this unique wine.

A deep and concentrated ruby red in colour with aromas of fresh red berry fruits with plum and blueberry notes. A palate rich in fruit flavours, an elegant style, it is balanced and persistent. Dense fruit with Touriga Franca providing body and flavor, well supported by the structure and acidity of Cabernet Sauvignon. Together, these varieties provide a wine with vibrancy and a creamy texture, with persistent finish.

2016 Trincadeira


It expresses the potential of this grape variety and its terroir, giving rise to a unique and individual well balanced varietal wine. From vines averaging 40 years the Trincadeira grapes were hand harvested and fermented in cement tanks where the wine was also matured for 6 months It was bottled March 2016; it was not oak aged. Bright ruby in colour, it has aromas of ripe mature fruit, very plummy. Velvety texture, soft well integrated tannins, and balanced acidity on the palate. Best enjoyed from 2016-2019.

2013 Vinha das Palmeiras -Alicante Bouchet

Alicante Bouschet

A wine produced only in exceptional years and in limited quantities. Made from 21-year-old Alicante Bouchet grape parcels from the estate vineyards that express the unique potential and character of this individual grape variety; crafted by winemakers David Baverstock and Luís Patrão.

Deep, concentrated colour. Complex varietal aroma with black plum, dark chocolate and slight leather notes. A palate showing the classic tannic structure complemented by intense fruit and a long finish.
