Esporão, Herdade de
The modern winery is 30+ years old but, the origins of the Herdade do Esporão and its winemaking activities date back to the prehistoric times of the megalithic cultures and the Bronze Age. Already during the Roman occupation, the wines of the settlement of Esporão were exported to the whole Empire. The boundaries of the estate were established in 1267 and have remained practically unaltered since then.
2013 Vinha das Palmeiras
A wine produced only in exceptional years and in limited quantities. Made from 21 year old Alicante Bouchet grape parcels from the estate vineyards that express the unique potential and character of this individual grape variety; crafted by winemakers David Baverstock and Luís Patrão.
Deep, concentrated colour. Complex varietal aroma with black plum, dark chocolate and slight leather notes. A palate showing the classic tannic structure complemented by intense fruit and a long finish.
2014 Esporão Reserva Alentejo Tinto
Esporão Reserva is a mature, elegant and balanced wine produced from a blend of Aragonês, Trincadeira, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet. It is memorable for its engaging flavour that is perfectly suited for special moments. It is a wine for people who value life and the best it has to offer. Deep, dark red in colour; intense and lifted aromas with ripe red berry fruits and well integrated new oak giving hints of chocolate and vanilla. The palate is well balanced and elegant, with layers of ripe fruit and fine supportive tannins. Shows richness and complexity, with a long and persistent finish.

Grown on granite/schist rock with clay/loam soil. The average age of the vines is 15 years. Vibrant pink colour. Fruity aromas with notes of wild strawberries it has a youthful palate; it is a fresh, elegant and balanced. A versitile wine that can be enjoyed on its own and with a wide range of light fare from seafood and cold cuts to pastas and soups.
2015 Alandra Alentejo Tinto
Produced from various Portuguese grape varieties, including Moreto, Trincadeira e Castelão, which lend aromas of red fruit, this wine is good company for grilled sardines or pork dishes. Screw-capped.

A classic wine style made from estate grown Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro, Semillon grapes (average age of vines 18 years) that show the consistency and the rich, ripe character which is typical of the best Alentejo wines. A temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks and in new french and american oak barrels with 6 month ageing on fine lees.
The wine colour is clear, straw with green tinges. The aroma is rich and intense with notes of peach and grapefruit, and well integrated toasty notes. On the palate it is creamy and complex, well balanced, deeply fruity with minerality and a fresh and persistent finish. Ideally consumed at 12°C: Drink 2014-2018

It expresses the potential of this grape variety and its terroir, giving rise to a unique and individual well balanced varietal wine. From vines averaging 40 years the Trincadeira grapes were hand harvested and fermented in cement tanks where the wine was also matured for 6 months It was bottled March 2016; it was not oak aged. Bright ruby in colour, it has aromas of ripe mature fruit, very plummy. Velvety texture, soft well integrated tannins, and balanced acidity on the palate. Best enjoyed from 2016-2019.

Portuguese wines are known to be blended from a wide range of varieties, giving them character and identity. The predominant varieties in this wine are Aragonês, Trincadeira, Touriga Nacional, Syrah. Other varieties are also used in smaller amounts. Initial fermentation followed by a malolatic fermentation in stainless steel with 6 month ageing in tanks and in american oak.
Clear ruby red in colour. Aromas of ripe red berry fruits with dry vegetable notes, it is complex and subtle. The palate offers freshness, elegance, good balance and structure.
